The Mission | About Capo Studios

    About

The foundation of Capo Studios is rooted in a perspective that is shared by the People of Praise - a charasmatic, ecumenical, covenanted community. For more information about People of Praise, you can visit peopleofpraise.org.

  • Mission

Just as the capo was designed to change the key and pitch of a guitar, the Mission of Capo Studios is to change common perspectives in today's music industry, and introduce a new approach where the primary lyrical focus and intended context is for the Glory of Jesus Christ in praise and worship, is thanksgiving and adoration, and in reflection - changing the way that life in Chrst can be expressed in music. Changing the way song writing can be accomplished from the perspective of non-greographically located collaborators.

  • Vision

With stylistic influences from other popular genres, and spritual inspiration from scripture and day-to-day life as shared in Christ, Capo Studios also aims to provide tools (see the toolbox) to allow other writers and to capture, record, and share their ideas with an open-souce, somewhat techy approach.

Although People of Praise branches spread out
across the US, Canada, the Carribean, and Hawaii, we refuse to let Non-Geographically unified locations prevent us from being unified in pastoral direction, substanstive work building the Kingdom of God, and musical efforts in worship and praise.

Capo Studios is ready to support those interested in joining a new effort to present and express the People of Praise culture through music in a way that cannot be manipulated by production or publication companies, and will be used as channel to glorify the Lord.

This is Our Life. We live it. We can create the music. We can share it. We'll worship with it. We'll Praise
. We will be United in Christ.

  • Insight

I found a great album on iTunes the other day, to learn some insights and helpful ways to think about Reclaiming Worship, an interview with N.T. Wright, examinging the nature of today's worship expressions in the light of the history of the church. So look for it on iTunes or Vineyard Music.

  • History

The People of Praise has a long-standing history of spirit-filled, ecumencial music. The Catholic Charasmatic Renewel in the 70's brought some inspirational song writing. Either before, during or after that time there were Songs of Praise 1,2,3,&4 made available in South Bend, IN. There was also a Green book (name unkownw) made available. In the 80s & 90s the Blue and Red Sing Out Your Praise books were released. There was a period of time, sometimes referred to as 'Revival', where an entirely new breed of various musical genres of worship and praise wereexperimented with, taught, learned, and shared. These included: Hillsongs, Vineyard, Worship Together, and others. In late 90s an into the 2000s there have been a continuous stream of new songs coming from singer/song writer J-T Kelly out of South Bend, IN as well as a few from singer/songwriter Andy Grams in Eagan, MN.

ln the Spring of 2007, there was a strong encouragement in the Minneapolis/St. Paul twin cities MN are, made by Jim Rolland - the Music Ministry/Worship Leader in the Servant Branch - to call out anyone who maybe finding interest or inspiration in writing new songs. A driving factor behind this this encouragement was the plans of the People of Praise Headquarters in South Bend, IN to compile another songbook for 2008, and discuss better ways to articulate our life in Christ, capture what we are about and the direction that the People of Praise is heading, and build a foundation of songs that could be actively used by the People of Praise branches sot that out of town visitors could easily pick up on this basis of commonly used songs, and feel welcomed and able to participate - even when in a city that was "home away from home".

A small replica of the People of Praise website was created in 2007 to track some of new ideas that were born out of this song-writing encouragement at thestudio. As leaders of the People of Praise, leaders of music, musicians, singers, and songwriters are gathering in March 2008 to move forward with the next step, the former Non-Prof Solns "thestudio" has now migrated and upgraded to Capo Studios (capostudios.org).
